Neptune’s Sheep

Neptune’s Sheep

The wind is blowing, the waves are steep
The Inlet is bleating with Neptune’s Sheep
Sprays of wool are sheared by Nature’s hand
While breakers charge against the land
The flock is rushing on the sea
As if cavorting on the lea
And I in my skiff, I prod ahead
Resembling a shepherd, but instead
I’m at the mercy of Neptune’s sheep
For the wind is blowing and the waves are steep

Neptune’s sheep is an old term for the whitecaps on the sea.  Stumbled upon that phrase in my readings and it just begged for it’s own poem.  Hope you agree.
