Looking Up

The ancients used the stars for a calendar.   And a map. Constellations told them when to plant and when to harvest and how to navigate upon the seas.  They were dependent on their environment, not only for sustenance, but for knowledge and direction.

The ancients looked at the stars.  We look at a screen.  We can instantly pinpoint the time of year, to the second, yet it holds little meaning.  Our GPS tells us our exact location on this earth, but not our place in the world.

We have gained knowledge of the details of matters while losing some understanding of their importance.  Is it any wonder we desecrate our environment?  The ancients looked at the stars. We look at a screen.  Maybe it’s time to start looking up once more.
